room lights don't work

Don't forget to check the neutral.  Many times circuits quit working 
because they have no return path.  If the circuit you're running a coil off 
of, and the affected circuit share the same neutral lug in the panel, and 
were poorly tightened, that could affect the circuit.  Try testing between 
hot and ground on the affected circuit.  If you have power then you have a 
neutral problem.  I have been an electrician for 24 years.  If you have
