Finn,

I feel like I should have thought of that, but thanks!
  The variacs are different brands and their physical
size seems to differ somewhat, but they are both 20
amp and 0-140 volt capable, so it should work.
Especially with short TC runs.  I guess I was
just stuck in the "box" of thinking about ganging two
identical variacs on one shaft.  Thanks again for
pointing this out!
