Re: Bi-polar almost done

Hi,

Well, I got it done, and performance isn't too good. The specs are below,
and the primary SEEMED best at 5 turns. I really couldn't see much of a
difference several turns either way. Funny, same thing with my 5000/20
coil. A turn one way or the other didn't affect much. On my big one, one
turn sets safety's firing and there is no output, period. Hit the right
spot, and watch out.

I also have to keep the spark gap, as well as the output gap, tight,
otherwise there are racing sparks and pri to sec strikes. Is this a normal
bipolar issue? Output is between 5-6 inches now, but I am hoping for a bit
more. I tried following the advice of Scott Hanson, and placing a small
toroid on each side, and performance improved, but after retuning, lots of
racing sparks and pri sec hits. I would appreciate any insight into sorting
this little guy out. BTW, primary diameter is about 4 1/2 inches, leaving
about 1 1/4 clearance between the 2 3/8 secondary. Due to the design of the
system, I can't go any wider.

Thanks,
John Richardson
