Hi Eric,

Yes, most average sized homes have 200 amp electrical service but
how often is a house actually drawing 200 amps at one time?
If you look inside your load center breaker (or fuse) box,
the sum total amperage of all of your circuits may very well
exceed the 200 amp rating of the main breaker switch as well.
It would be very unlikely that every electrical customer would
be pulling the maximum load at any particular given time and
that's how the utility company can get by with using a trans-
former whose kVA rating dosen't seem to add up to the demand.
And, as I was stating in a previous post on this subject, pole
pigs can easily handle reasonable temporary overloads of their
nameplate rating.
