Power control for soft starting ...

Hi,

Has anyone used input power control for the SSTCs ?
My understanding is that when the circuit is powered ON, there will be
sudden surge of current flowing the MOSFETs or IGBTs in the bridge.
How can this be controlled ? Can the gate drive voltage be reduced in
the beginning and gradually increase it to +/-15 volts so that the
switching power is increased gradually and reaches a steady state after
few milliseconds ?
