Re: Odd coil behavior

You have to remember that you are looking at inter-turn and cover over turns
in a completely different frame of reference than an electron would.

Coverings over the coil and even improper insulation turn to turn will
affect the long term operation of the coil. Rich Hull almost never used any
type of insulation on his coils.

My point was that the types of insulation you mentioned will not provide any
increased insulation value at all. If your intent is to insulate then you
need a quality insulation formulated to do the proper job. An improper
painted on coating, such as the easy to remove plastic someone mentioned, is
not going to provide effective insulation.

I would ask --- how many commercial high voltage transformers have you seen
that are "shrink wrapped"?
