Clark:     16 0r 18 gauge wire is small for primary use. It can be used for
the secondary, but... it will take a lot of core space and will be heavy.
The coils made by Dr Moray ( 1900) used wire of large size. His coils were
7-9 ft tall and  8 to 24 in diameter with 1/4 x 2 in copper banding flat
coil primaries.
