I have been using the 1600 volt, 942c series Cornell-dubilier capacitor
with good results. I don't have a web page to post my images on, but you can
see my configuration here:

If you look at the picture of the coil running (supersize the image) you can
see that those caps work very well despite a poorly made single gap spark
gap, and the whole thing connected together with 18 gauge jumper clips. They
get barely warm after extended runs. I am not trying to draw attention to
these as a means of selling them to Tesla list subscribers, since everyone
here knows where to buy these caps from. I do recommend the Geek group for
capacitor purchases. They are usually able to deliver quickly, and there is
no minimum order with them. They are also instrumental in other facets of
this hobby of ours and information that gets posted on this list.
I have been building these "Flexible Capacitors" with the young
experimenter in mind, since it allows the user to connect to most 30
milliamp transformers available, the capacitance "close enough" to the ltr
value for each transformer. The idea, to try to keep the first time coil
builder from running his coil to destruction by using a resonant value cap
and then opening the gaps too much, seeking longer sparks. At the last
connection point, the 14 capacitors equal a .0071uf capacitance, and 14
times 1,600 = 22,400 volts. Since it is an approximate LTR value for the
15/30, it will not be driven up by resonant action to voltages much higher
than the nameplate of the transformer.
The design is consistent with Geek group guidelines. It spaces the
resistors away from the skin of the capacitor, the capacitors have a little
air space between them, and the connections are spaced away from other
objects. Comments about this arrangement are welcome.

Cheers, Dave Goodfellow
