Having worked for an insurance company, I know that
most insurance companies will probably not care too
much if you run one circuit and do it according to
code. Now, if on the otherhand you insist on building
your own house and doing your own wiring for the
entire thing, that is another matter. They WILL
require the work to be inspected. (and not just the
electrical stuff!) I also think this applies if you're
building
an addition etc... Again, the NEC Code isn't a law,
it's just a set of guidelines that NEMA and most
insurance companies have agreed are safe for mains
wiring.

Then again, if the insurance company finds out you've
been running a 10KVA pole pig in your basement for
Tesla coil work, you might be SOL anyway :)
