By the way, an induction coil can be designed to operate much as a
Tesla coil, with the difference that the initial energy is in the
primary inductor, and not in the primary capacitor. The optimal tuning
relation is a bit different (the two sides are -not- tuned to the same
frequency), and the optimal values of the coupling coefficient are
different.
The program mrn4 (http://www.coe.ufrj.br/~acmq/programs) can calculate
the required element values.
An observation of the range of possibilities that leads to feasible
circuits leads to the usual induction coils, with large inductance
secondaries, relatively high coupling, and operation at a few kHz.
