Try a web search on 'fullerene' or buckminster

fullerene. Typically a 3d 'cage' or 'ball'

         of carbon atoms.

         Roughly:
There is a class of ball shaped arrays of atoms
(molecules), which are 'hollow'. They were first
recognized formally about 15 years ago (?). Turns out
they occur naturally in some places, notably sooty

deposits, as in stove pipes, etc. They are intriguing

because (among other reasons) they can 'contain'

         other molecules, encapsulating them.
