Dan,

The hardware store may have some sleeves that are designed to solder splice 
the tubes together.

Using a piece of copper wire that is near the inside diameter of the tubing 
can also work well. Just flow a healty amount of solder into the gap. The 
internal splice method will have less chance of causing corona. Just run 
some sandpaper over the completed splice to take off any sharp edges.
