     Hi Adam-
     I had great results sealing mine with several coats of Minwax
Fast-drying Polyurethane (Home Depot, $6/qt). Be sure to do both inside and
out.
     MDF is fine, as are small metal screws. You just want to avoid large
metal structures, such as closed rings, near the primary coil.
