Re: static charge in secondary coil

Hi, yep, many have had this happen. I think it is due to pvc and urethane
and the layers makes a capacitive layer. there are many posts on the list
about these shocks. When sanding my pvc pipe on a lathe with wooden plugs on
both ends it built a static charge, i left it there for 4 hours and there
was some charge still there. My work with electrostatics for 3 years at a
printing firm suggests this; every time you apply a layer to a material it
tends to form lines or layers capable of holding static charge. example; we
had a mylar web and we put a layer of adhesive prep on, a layer of adhesive,
a removable cover made of 5 layers(release liner), turned the web over and
prep coated it, a layer of printable coating and then a chloride layer for
"Zerox" style toner printing. That material was so charged that no matter
what we did it still held a charge and caused printing even when we didnt
charge the surface! charged surface was to hold the toner to make the print
image. When you view a layer with electrostatic probe technology you find
multi layers in most all substances. paint has 4 layers, bond layer, liquid
layer, sealed layer and the exposed surface is also a layer. Electricity
goes where it wants if you get the idea. cul brian f.
