Yes, the Dallas / Ft. Worth Tesla Coil Builders (DFWTCB) group has pioneered
the development of this type of toroid.  They have some excellent photos
illustrating construction of even large toroids using stryo and chicken
wire.

The chicken wire comes in two standard mesh sizes:  1 in and 2 in.   U.S.
mfgrs produce the 2 in while Chineese mfgrs market the 1 in mesh while is
available in US markets.

We've found the very best material to use in quail wire commonly used on
state and Federal game farms.  It has a 1/2 in mesh and is easy to work
with.
