Hello Colin,

If you want to invest in something, try DigiKey part
number PR-28A-ND.  It's a high voltage probe you can
attach to your multitestor.  This probe measures up to
40,000 volts DC, and up to 28,000 volts AC.  Are you
located in the UK?  If so shipping might be a little
too much...I'm not sure.  They also have a stand alone
HV probe that doesn't require a DMM, I believe it's
around 110 dollars US.  Have fun.
