Hi Scot,

Don't overlook the old TL494/DBL494/uPC494 chips. They can be had
quickly by yanking them from an old ATX "silver box" PC switcher
(that HASNT been hit by lightning!!!). The IR211X series are newer
IC's from International Rectifier - that's most likely why NTE
doesn't stock them. Same for the UC3860 from TI/Unitrode. NTE does,
however, stock the TL494. The cross-reference is NTE1729, it is a pin
for pin replacement to the 494 type.

For IGBT gate drive, digikey also stocks TC4420 (noninverting) and
TC4429 (inverting) gate drivers. They are able to drive a 2500pF
capacitive load to 18V in 25nS, with 6A of transient current. Many of
us on this list use these chips, but they may be overkill in your
situation. If you drive a transformer with any gate driver, remember
to put series shottky diodes across the output (GND, anode, cathode,
OUT, anode, cathode, Vcc) and bypass the rails with a 0.1 - 1.0uF
ceramic capacitor.

Take care,
