The eddy currents in steel (and other losses) rise dramatically at
higher frequencies >10khz perhaps.  Thats why ferrite or iron powder
cores are used in HF receiver and transmitter work, and flybacks. Their
conductivity is much lower.  See the list archives for my experiments
with a ferrite rod inside a small coil.  Rob.
