d

power triodes. Tetrodes and pentodes can work, but are more
trouble sometimes. The smallest that can work are tubes such
as the 807's, 815's, and 6146's. These can't withstand much
voltage though, and tend to burn up and arc inside. A much
better tube is the 811A, which can give a 4" spark or so. They
can be bought for $5 to $15 or so. Then there's the 4-125A,
4-250A, 304TL, 833A, 4-1000A, 3-500Z, 805, 845, 838, 813,
572B, HF300, EE200, 4-400A, etc, which are more expensive,
and suitable for larger coils.
