RE: MOT's as Isolation Transformers - Follow Up

Hi Matthew

Yes its not hard. I cut through the welds with a hacksaw and knocked the I
off the E with a hammer and oak stick. One at a time, I locked each coil in
a frame (kind of hard to describe) and used a small hydraulic jack to push
the core off the coils. Lubrication oil was used make it easier for the
coils to slide along the core. Also padding was used to prevent damage to
the coils.

I did not notice the HV coil was not grounded to the core. When I connected
the core to that of another MOT, an arc occurred between the bottom of the
HV coil and the core. After removing the HV coil, I removed the about three
layers of bottom turns. After insulating the bottom of the coil, the MOT was
back in service. Unfortunately I had to remove the primary to get at the
secondary. I had to save the MOT because it was almost identical to the
other MOT.
