News groups are wonderful things.

I suspect, based on decadess of observation, that for relatively
technical (and sometimes hazardous) things like 'coiling, a
well run list is more beterrer than a NG.  

(Hint:
 I consider this list notably well run...)

There are at least two applicable NG, neither very active, should
one desire to explore:

   alt.energy.high-voltage
