All Electronics (http://www.allcorp-dot-com/) has 6kV, 200 mA diodes for $0.50
each. You can string them in series.  If you don't want to fool with
equalizing resistors and/or capacitors (which are of dubious value: check
the archives), string together 50% more than you'd need.  That is, think of
them as 4kV diodes, so if you want a 20 kV string, use 5.

I've run these both in oil and potted in 2 part HV silicone.

I haven't run these in parallel, but I would imagine that with a suitable
series ballast resistor to equalize currents, that they would work ok.
