tubes?

I have a coil running 811A's, that generates sparks in the 6 to 10 inch
range. I built it around ten years ago and it has done many demonstrations
without a failure, a very durable coil. The transformer in the plate
supply is 1680 v/600mil, paralleled by 2)parallel 500pf/30kv doorknobs. The
plate coil is 18 turns of #16 siamese lamp cord paralleled by a .003/2kv
mica. The grid coil residing 3/4" above the plate coil is 18 turns of #20
stranded/insulated with a 5k/50watt wirewound paralleled by another
500pf/30kv doorknob to ground. The fils for the four 811A's are driven by
a 6.3v/16amp transformer. The secondary is 18" tall. This is a plate
tuned AC coil. I also have a variac on the plate transformer.

I have several other lower power tube driven coils as well. Like a
parallel 6146 grid tuned DC coil.

If you just want to play with tube coils the 811a coil will work fine, if
you want to make huge sparks better look for a carbon plate 833 or two.
