I think that you'll find that cheap Tc's are possible, just not probable..

I've spent more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on TC parts etc. than I have ever spent 
to keep my car running. ( I think I'm  up to about $1500 worth of HV "junk")

P.S.

To "see" a smaller coil or two, look at sam barros(spelling?? sorry) twin 
mini tc or vitamini.  The TC builders of richmond(spelling again) also did a 
briefcase mounted mini, I believe.
