hey allan

the approach of putting another transformer in series with the ones you
want to ballast 
only works of you can short the secondary coil of the ballast transformer,
as the maximum 
current is then limited by the current limiting if that transformer, for a
bust nst with an open 
secondary very little curent will flow, hence the wimpy sparks. try another
mot as balast, 
that worked for me for short runs, if you want less current you can place a
load on the 
secondary of the balast trannie, you would probably have to use something
like a large 
power resistor or some sort of discharge lamp.
