Would be a good idea in terms of efficiency and weight =)

I hope it _IS_ going to take over, since microwave ovens would get lighter, 
cheaper, more energy efficient, etc.

And the hobby _WILL_ adapt - you can count on it. Maybe a solid state 1kW 5kV 
power supply would be really handy! At the very least you would get some beefy 
transistors in there to play with for solid state coiling, and I reckon a DC 
supply of that size would be good for lots of things as it is =) Run about 100 
helium-neon lasers at once, for example =)
