I actually occasionally perform a demonstration where I electrolyse water
using ac, and explode the mixture in a plastic bag. As far as electrolysis
is concerned it makes no difference whether you use ac or dc, the products
are the same. hydrogen and oxygen in the proportion of 2:1, the optimal
proportions for an explosion!
