Re: THHN



THHN is a reference to the type of insulation on wiring, coded per the
National Electrical Code.

T - Thermoplastic (60C) for dry locations
TW - moisture resistant thermoplastic for wet locations
THHN - heat resistant Thermoplastic (90C) for dry locations
THWN - heat resistant (75C) for dry and wet locations

T == thermoplastic (R == rubber, X == crosslinked synthetic polymer, A ==
Asbestos, etc.)
W == moisture resistant
H == heat resistant 
HH == more heat resistant

The N means it has a nylon outer jacket (which helps reduce abrasion damage
when pulling through conduit)..

and so forth...

The letter codes aren't all that systematic, though... MTW means machine
tool wire, for instance..
