I've done what you described, but I did not use aluminum plate. Instead
I took a piece of 12AWG wire, and pounded a flat into it. I then used a
punch to place a dimple in the flat, and balanced that on a pin mounted
to a support. The arms were bent 90deg at the ends. This unit would do about
800-1000 rpm on my 2" coil running on a 12KV/30ma transformer.
