Re: Believe it or not

I have seen a couple references to FCC violations in this thread. Can
anyone cite the actual FCC rule(s) or regulation(s) that coiling
violates? I imagine it has something to do with unlicensed
transmission, but I would like to know the specifics.

I'd also like to point out that many times a single event gets some
politician all worked up and he/she pushes a regulatory law through.
But many times the law or regulation is never enforced, except in
extreme situations. It would be awfully difficult to discover coilers
like myself who work out of our basements and garages. Certainly the
police in my city have better and more important things to do. Now, I'm
sure if I set up a 10kV coil in front of the police station I'd get into
trouble, but even without TC laws on the books (disturbing the peace,
menacing, etc.).

Finally, I think the comparison made to tobacco control is not
legitimate. The notion that one has a right to engage in activities
that present a danger to ONLY oneself is, I think, a basic principle of
our country. Of course, TC's in very rare circumstances could present a
danger to those who are not voluntarily participating, but the vast
majority of the time only those who are willingly and knowingly
participating are in the 'danger zone'. The current issue with smoking
is that it not only puts the smoker at risk, but it also puts those
around him at risk. An employee can't just leave because someone in the
workplace is smoking--he would get fired after a day or two. This is
true even if the workplace is the home.
