Ed, John,

The Corums suggested that Tesla may have hoped to use Zenneck
waves within the earth to transmit the energy. This is based on the
low resistance of the earth over a wide area, the difficulty is in getting
a low resistance "connection" to the earth at the Tesla coil. Once
a proper connection is made, they claim the resistance would be
one ohm to the other side of earth. The Corums agree that the
Shumann idea won't work.
