     i think, from what i've heard, that you want to stay as far away from 
     water based varnish as possible, since the idea of the sealing is to 
     keep water out of the coilform.
     
     but i could be wrong. . .

I too have purchased a rather expensive piece of acrylic tubing. 
and am experimenting with a sealer that has not been mentioned yet.
     
     It is  the new class of non-yellowing WATER based acrylic varnish, 
     marketed as "environmentally friendly" clear wood finish.
