For a coil with a small power supply as you have described, you can use a
counterpoise which could be made from several square feet of metal screen,
foil, fencing, etc. layed out on the floor and connected to the bottom of the
secondary.

Contact D.C. Cox at Resonance Research for caps.  He has .004 mfd radar caps
at a very good price.
