Your explanation of the functioning is correct, and yes, it DOES produce
a pulsed effect. Your microwave oven actualy cooks with a 50% duty cycle
(at best). However, cooking food is a pretty non-critical RF
application, and the thermal time constant is much, much longer than a
half cycle, so as far as the food is concerned, the heating is
continuous.
