Military surplus TC

So time back at flea market I picked up something called (in
government-ese) a 'Training Aid, Electronic Circuit Electrostatic Kit',
made for the U.S. Naval Training Device Center by Electronic Brazing in
1964. What it is is a wooden case containing a small tube driven coil in a
nice metal and plexi cabinet, several 3" dia. spherical metal terminals, a
rather larger and sorta egg shaped metal 'ball', an electroscope, a bunch
plexi rods with various metal ends, and a large assortment of supports,
cloth, silk thread, pith balls, etc. Just about everything you'd need to
demonstrate high-voltage and/or static electricity.

Unfortunately, the only thing I know is missing is the instruction manual
that shows how it all goes together! Some of it is pretty obvious of
course, but some is not so obvious. Has anyone ever seen one of these
before? Does any one else have one, or the manual for one? I've searched
high and low on the web and come up with nothing.

Interestingly, the output of the coil is rectified (looks like a 1B3 in
there) and the cabinet is marked '10,000 Volts D.C - Danger'. Any thoughts
on why they would go to the trouble to make the output D.C?

Thanks,

- Mike
