Ardjan,

As long as you can carefully make a splice which has a low profile, and
no sharp ends projecting outward, you should be OK. Putting a glob on
insulating varnish or HV silicone caulk on top of the splice will also
help prevent corona. Electrically, it makes no real difference to the
coil's operation... you're only real risk is introducing a site for
corona.
