  Note that this is not the proper way to describe sparks from a coil if you
are going to determine the overall efficiency of a Tesla coil. The
efficiency of a TC is the energy output divided by the input. The energy in
this type of spark cannot be determined because it ignores the time involved
in creating the spark. Energy is the product of watts and time. How would
you test for the time of a point to point or wavy spark to establish the
energy of the spark ? The controlled spark length solves this problem.
