You put the pig in series with one leg of the AC line input to the
welder,
and then short out the secondary leads on the welder.  When the pig trys
to
draw too much current, the leakage inductance in the welder limits it. 
If
you were to completely short out your pig for some reason, the worst
case
scenario would be that the welder would just draw the normal amount of
current it was set to draw.  Well...if you did it long enough you might
hurt your welder since its duty cycle is inversely proportional to the
amount of current it's pulling, but you get the idea.  Hope that helps.
