What is a good means to make a secure connection to the primary coil? I
have a 1/4" Cu tubing primary. Up until now I have just been using
plain old alligator clips. Is there anything that can fit snuggly
around it?

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin, I have another approach that I find to very easy to attach and
remove from the primary coil. In my case, the primary coil was wound
using 1/4" copper tubing.

The first thing that you want to find is a fuse holder clip that hold
1/4" fuses. The actual trade name is "Single Fuse Clips" made by "BUSS"
fuseholders.

The fuse clips come in different sizes, so beg borrow or rummage through
your junk box for the size that you need. Notice that the fuse clip has
a whole in the bottom of it. This hole will be used to attach a short
piece of 1/4" hex standoff, maybe 1/2" in length. Screw the fuse holder
to the the hex standoff and now you have an excellent way of quickly
connecting and disconneting the contact point on the primary. (oh by
the way, use the other end of the hex standoff to connect the hv too :)

Secondly, you may have to gently cut away a small retainer from the clip
so that you can slide the copper tubing over. This retainer is on the
end of the clip and stamped out from the same material. If you don't
remove this stamping, then you will never be able to get the clip over
the 1/4" tubing. If you have not idea what I am talking about, take a
close look at it and you will see what I mean. This retainer is used to
prevent the fuse from sliding out of the holder.
