Malcom: I frequently use paraffin wax for potting stuff here, because of its low melting point. Major problem is the extreme shrinkage which occurs on freezing, and the tendency to trap air bubbles. I keep the paraffin container hot and keep pouring more in as the potting material begins to freeze. This method seems to work for me, but might be hard to try in your case. Ed
